Last week, I showed you how to make farmhouse style planters using plastic coffee ground jugs. (If you missed it, you can find the link here.) This week I’m showing you how to make round, black framed mirrors using the plastic LIDS to the coffee jugs! What?!?
Here are the things you will need: The plastic lid (that fit the 25.4 oz coffee ground jug), jute (for hanging), adhesive, and a 6″ round mirror.
The first thing I did was drill two holes in the plastic lid where you want your jute to hang from. Make sure you drill in the smaller “step” in the lid as shown.
Then measure the length of jute you want for your mirror to hang on and tie the ends so they don’t fall through the holes. As you can see, the jute knots are in the lower cavity of the lid. This way the mirror can sit on the upper lip of the lid.
Next, you will add the adhesive around the upper “step” of the lid. Try to keep the glue more to the inside of the lip because there is a slight gap between the edge of the mirror and the edge of the lid.
Now, place your 6″ round mirror on the lip with the glue and shift it around a little so it’s sitting even between the edges.
Wait for it to dry according to your adhesive directions. Voila!! Your very own up-cycled round, black framed mirror! And it only costs a couple of dollars to make. I bought my supplies at Hobby Lobby and used the 40% off coupons to make it real cheap.
You could really customize these to whatever your decor. You could use ribbon, pearls, or even paint the lids different colors. You could also just put a keyhole hole in the back and not use a hanger. You could even put a whole bunch of these together to make a cool art installation on your wall. The possibilities are endless!
