A show of hands if you are a fan of barbed wire art like me! I especially LOVE the stars! I found a pretty simple way to craft your very own barbed wire star of any size that you choose. The example I show today is about 12″. Here are the few things you will need:
While wearing gloves, I used the red handle wire cutters to cut 5 barbed wire pieces at 12″ each. I tried to make each piece as straight as I could. Next, I laid out my star to see how the pieces fit.
I used the wire to attach each end together. I cut 10 pieces about 6″ long using the black handle wire cutters. You will use 5 to join the ends, and the other 5 to connect the joints. I used copper colored wire because I wanted a contrast, but you could use silver, or any other color that suites your fancy. You notice that I attached the wire to one piece first, then wrapped both together. I found it made it easier.
You can see where I used the wire to connect all the joints, too.
Here is the finished star! Pretty easy and I didn’t even hurt myself. LOL!
I wanted to take this star one step further by adding some ribbon. This makes a great 4th of July decoration, but, let’s be real. This is going to stay out all year long. I added a jute ribbon by wiring it to the star.
Then I hot glued the star ribbon on top. I also added some hot glue to the back of the barbed wire joints for added stability. You could use some super glue, too.
Here is the final product. This was a super easy and affordable project that I hope you will try. Let me know how it goes!
