With the price of outdoor furniture these days, I tend to look for ways I can create what I need with little to no money. I made these tables last year and wanted to spruce them up a bit for entertaining this summer.
I was given a set of wire planter holders and knew right away that I wanted to use them as outdoor side tables. Mine were free, but you can check your local yard sales, Facebook Marketplace, or even Craigs List to see what’s out there.
These are pre-made wooden tops that I purchased from Menards for about $3 each. So, as you can see, I spent very little money on these!
I attached the tops with a few machine screws. The machine screws have a larger flat head to grab onto the metal rod on the planter. I tried a staple gun, but mine wasn’t strong enough to hold. I, then, just had to sand them a little.
If you recall from a previous blog post, I used the “torched” method to finish my outdoor bar top. I wanted some consistency, so I torched the tops of these side tables, too.
Here is the video of me torching my bar top.
Once the wood was cool, I used this top coat to protect the tables from the outdoor elements.
Here are the renewed side tables. Ready for summer entertaining!
These tables are so versatile, they will fit into any style. You could paint the bottoms a color to match your decor. You can also paint the tops or maybe even use a stencil. The sky is the limit with all the creative ways you could use these. Happy crafting!
