Have you ever wanted to try to make your own farmhouse designs on a pillow case? I really like the grain sack stripes and wanted to try making my own pillow cases using those designs.
I purchased two 18″ natural canvas pillow covers from Hobby Lobby to use for this project. I also used some painters tape to mark out my design, gray chalk paint and brush, and a tape measure to make sure I was centered and straight.
After deciding what my design will look like, I started applying the painters tape to achieve that look.
I used three different widths of tape for my design.
I marked the tape strips that I used as placeholders. Once I was done laying out all the tape I pulled the strips that had the check mark.
The open spaces will get painted to create my design.
I did some research about using chalk paint on fabric and I found that it is washable. I have not verified this yet. If I find that the paint did not work, I will update this post for you all.
After all the stripes were painted, I pulled the painters tape from the pillow cover.
Who else finds it so rewarding to pull the tape to reveal the design? I think it’s my favorite part! (The paint is still wet here, but chalk paint dries real fast.)
These pillow covers turned out to be exactly what I wanted and I couldn’t be more pleased!
If you would like to watch how I did these, here is the live replay from Facebook.
Thank you all so much,
Krissy xo
