This is one of those projects where you will be happy you saved those tin cans from dinner! If you don’t have any cans saved up, you will definitely want to save a few to do this project. I really love how these turned out. A very special “Thank you!” goes out to Shelby for making these sunflower labels for us to print out and use. (The link to download them is at the end of this post.)
Here are the supplies you will need: Tin cans (washed, with the labels removed.), paint (I used this Rust-Oleum chalk spray paint.), sand paper, labels, matte Mod Podge, paint brush, and scissors.
After removing the labels and washing the cans, it’s painting time. You can really use any paint or color you choose. I chose spray paint because it’s faster. (I did end up with some runs from this spray paint, but most of them sanded out.)
After my two coats of paint dried, I used some sand paper to distress the finish to my liking.
Here is a side-by-side comparison of a can that wasn’t distressed compared to one that was. I really preferred the distressed look on this project.
Now it’s time to Mod Podge the labels on to the cans. I brushed Mod Podge on the can first.
Then I placed my label into the Mod Podge.
I brushed more Mod Podge over the label to seal it in.
Once your cans are dry, you can decorate or use them any way you wish. I am using mine as vases. I’m loving the look of the brown bottles inside the cans!
Don’t forget the link to download these beautiful sunflower labels is below.
Thank you all so much,
Krissy xo
