My after-Christmas decor usually consisted of a lot of greenery, pine cones, candles, and table tops full of…well, we’ll just call it like it is…clutter. This year, my mindset has been a little different. I take care of my grandson during the day (he is now 20 months old.) You can imagine little hands with all the decor! I have definitely had to scale back! What’s funny is I decided to do more than just the areas he can reach. I was just tired of all the things and I just wanted a more simpler look and feel. I still have a decent amount of decor out, so it still feels warm and inviting. I would love to share with you my scaled back, after-Christmas decor.
I recently added this olive green pillow. After photographing this angle previously without the addition of the pillow, I realized I needed a little more color. I found the pillow cover and the inserts on Amazon. The solid gray pillow covers are also from Amazon. The Sherpa throw blanket from Target is one of the softest blankets I have! I loved it so much, I gave another one as a Christmas gift. (I could not find it on the website, but linked a similar one for you.)
The evergreen tree you see on my entry table also came from Amazon. When the weather warms up, this tree will be going outside. The deer and antelope won’t eat it and I also won’t have to water it. Win-Win!!
Here is the original picture that influenced me to add some more color.
My TV wall saw the most de-cluttering. I took down several everyday decor pieces that were up on the ledge, an iron wall embellishment that was right above the TV, and my blanket ladder. I am loving the cleaner look! The wire lantern was from Hobby Lobby a few years ago, and the wire trees were given to me.
These pots are some of my favorite pieces! The larger one I purchased from Target on clearance last year. It was part of their Jungalow line. It started out as dark blue. I sanded down a lot of the texture and painted it using my wall color (Shiitake by Sherwin Williams.) The smaller pot was a thrifted find. I used joint compound to add some texture to it and then painted it my wall color, too. I added a greenery stem in the larger pot. I just love the way they turned out!
Right before Christmas I added the board and batten treatment to my pellet stove area. I needed a place to hang stockings that my grandson couldn’t reach. I should have done this a long time ago. It really made that space look so much for substantial! The artwork consists of historical pictures of the area in which I live.
My dining room is one of my most favorite rooms to decorate. I made the buffet a couple years ago from cabinets that I took down in my kitchen. We recently added new sconces from Amazon and a new mirror from Hobby Lobby. (Unfortunately, I didn’t get a good picture of the sconces.) The barn picture, leather pot and greenery, and wood slice were all from Hobby Lobby. The clock was a diy. The Pottery Barn books were a Christmas gift from my daughter and son-in-law.
I recently bought a couple live plants to add to the atmosphere. I found this snake plant and the pot at Home Depot. The lamp is very old, from Walmart.
My kitchen decor is kind of a work-in-progress. With the addition of the olive green pillow in the living room, I am on the hunt to find something in that color for the kitchen. I like to sprinkle certain colors throughout my house for that flow factor.
I have a couple new things that I added to this corner. I wanted to add a little more warmth to my kitchen, so I added one of these mini lamps from Target. I also added a faux greenery stem from Target. The diffuser has been a really nice addition, too! The artwork is a photo of a pine tree branch. My daughter took this many years ago, and I display it all the time.
I added this open shelving a couple years ago. (This is where the cabinets came from to make my buffet.) I have kept them fairly simple and also use them to hold the things we use everyday. I really love having my glasses out and available for friends and family to grab and use whenever they come over. The water can is a new purchase from Target, too. Copper measuring cups and spoons are from Amazon.
The other side of the sink I have more glasses and bowls with a Magnolia cookbook, faux plant and a flameless LED candle.
As you can see, my house is not over-the-top decorated. I feel like the cozy throw pillows and blankets, a couple winter type photos, and a few trees add that “winter” feel throughout the main part of my house without it feeling Christmasy. Less things makes it wayyyy easier to clean! Bonus!
Thank you so much for stopping by!!
